Training for Patient Support Volunteers

Our training is a 30+ hour program designed to help you gain a better understanding of:

  •  Hospice Maui, our work and our mission

  •  What the patients and families we serve are going through

  •  How you can best support people in this time of their lives

Just as importantly, the training creates opportunities for learning about yourself - your own grief, your fears around dying, your ability to be with challenges as you sit with others going through one of the most vulnerable and difficult times that any of us will ever experience.

Sharing your time to help support a dying person and their loved ones can be one of the most physically, emotionally and spiritually challenging things you will ever do, and also has the potential for life-changing insights and gifts.

For those called to this work, your life experience, open heart and a sincere desire to be part of a team caring for those who are dying are your most important qualities

People with multiple language skills, especially Hawaiian, Ilocano, Tagalog, or Japanese, would often be helpful.

Spring 2024 Training dates will be announced soon. To apply, please complete a
