Medicine and What Matters in the End
We see a growing need in education and awareness building around topics regarding end of life. Even doctors are often uncomfortable discussing patients’ anxieties about death, leading to a fall back on false hopes and treatments that are actually shortening lives instead of improving them.
This public awareness campaign, using PBS’s FRONTLINE film, “Being Mortal”, on the importance of talking about end-of-life preferences and goals with loved ones and medical professionals will educate audiences and encourage people to take concrete steps to identify and communicate their wishes for end-of-life care.
Join us for a free screening and discussion of the PBS Frontline documentary Being Mortal. Based on the best-selling book by Dr. Atul Gawande, this film explores the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness and their relationships with the doctors, nurses and family members.
Please join us for the annual Memorial Day Remembrance & Celebration of Life Event, a special service hosted by Hospice Maui to honor loved ones who have died in the past year. Open to all Maui families who have lost a loved one in the past year. This is a non-denominational service that will include music, readings, poems, a reading of loved one’s names, a dove release, and light refreshments. Please RSVP to Hospice Maui at (808) 244-5555.
